How To Stocktake Your Life Using Tarot

The Wheel Of Life

There are many different uses for tarot but my favourite is when used to raise our level of self-awareness or consciousness. Many of us go through life without really thinking about what’s working, what’s not and  what we can do to reach our full potential.  Tarot can definitely be used as a divination tool but it can also be hugely successful when used as a life coaching tool.

There is a popular life coaching exercise/tool called The Wheel Of Life.  I wanted to take this to the next level by incorporating tarot.  You can do this exercise for yourself but it can also be very useful for a tarot reader to do this with their clients.

I’ve included a PDF to go along with this post which gives various templates for the wheel as well as a step by step guide.  You can download below:

I’ve also created a video tutorial with a live example…….

Step 1

Either draw a circle on a piece of paper or choose one of the wheels from the PDF download.  Have a think about which areas of your life you want to explore.  Some examples would be family, career, health, relationships, money etc but you can choose whatever you need at that time.

You can even make it more specific so the wheel could be overall about relationships and the segments could be relationships with partner, colleagues, boss, family, friends etc.  There is no right or wrong.

Step 2

You now have to go through and write a number on each segment on a scale of 1-10. (1 being bad and 10 being perfect).   This is your ‘now’ number’. E.g I have had a few health issues this year, that I am now getting under control.  Right now I would probably say that I am a 7.

Don’t spend too long thinking about each one and mark the number that comes to mind straight away.

Step 3

Start to think where you want to be on the scale and write a different number.  This is your ‘goal’ number.  E.g – my current health is marked as 7 but I really want to get back to a 9.   I would have 2 marks on that particular scale; one at 7 and one at 9.

During this process start to ask yourself or your client the following questions:

Have you ever been at the higher mark before?
What was different?
Have you been lower than you are now and if so how did that feel?
What’s stopping you from getting higher?
What would life be like if you reached the higher mark?

Step 4

Consult the tarot to find out what action you need to take.

I would suggest just a one card draw for each category and the question that you need to ask is:

“What action do I need to take the reach my higher score for this particular area of my life?”

If you are doing this for yourself you will need to have a certain level of expertise to interpret how the card will be relevant but a good tarot reader should be able to do this for you.

You may get some cards that could be perceived as negative such as The Tower.  However, if I see The Tower in an action position, on this type of reading, it would be telling me that you need to have a clear out in that area of your life so you can rebuild.  Maybe drastic action is needed so you can reach your true potential.

Step 5

You may want to take the reading further and start to look obstacles or blockages for each category; or maybe you could do this as an overall draw at the end of the process.

It’s completely up to you with how far you want to take it.

Step 6

It’s time to look at the big picture and make some goals.

You should have a clear idea of the actions that need to be taken to get to your goal number.  Write down a plan for the next 3-6 months, or whatever timeframe you are using,  and be sure that you have really actionable steps in there.

I’ve also included a goal sheet on the PDF which has Category, Action and Goal.  Aim to write a least 3 action points for each category.

Even if you are not using tarot, this is still a very good exercise.  When we reflect on where we are in life it can be really overwhelming and quite confronting.  This exercise helps us break it down into bite sized chunks so we can find some focus on where we want to get to in life.

  1. Will the cards tell you sexusl desires and you your sex life?
Sorry to ask but need that answer please..

      Hi Dawn,

The cards can indeed tell you about your sexual desires.

The 2 cards that can really signify sexual needs or desires are the Ace of Wands (male) and the Ace of Pentacles (Female). However, there are many different cards and it depends how you interpret them in a reading.
